Dr. Nathan Carroll Joins Health-e-Habits

Health-e-Habits is growing, and we’re proud to welcome Dr. Nathan A. Carroll as our psychiatric consultant.

Dr. Carroll is a board-certified psychiatrist and the national medical director of InSite Health. He serves on two American Psychiatric Association councils, and his work on technology and mental health has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time, ABC News, and Newsweek.

He co-edited “Internet Gaming Disorder: A Clinical Strategy Guide” (APA Publishing, 2025), written for providers, parents, and players. He is now the lead editor of “Digital Hyperconnectivity: A Clinical Guidebook,” a forthcoming APA book built on the framework he developed for how always-on connectivity shapes cognition, development, and behavior.

That framework is why he’s such a good fit. It treats our always-on world not as a crisis to reverse, but as a condition of modern life that families, schools, and clinicians have to understand and learn to navigate. That’s the belief behind everything we do. We don’t tell families to ban the screen. We help them understand how apps and video games are built, so they can set limits that actually make sense.

Our team brings over 20 years of experience from inside the media and video game industries, plus educators and a therapist who work with families every day. Dr. Carroll adds clinical depth. When a parent asks whether their kid’s gaming is a passion or a problem, we can now draw on someone who has spent his career studying exactly where that line falls.

Here’s what that will look like:

  • Clearer guidance on when to worry. Most kids who love video games are doing fine. Dr. Carroll’s work helps us explain the signs that something has shifted, and when it’s time to talk to a professional.
  • Stronger workshops. His clinical perspective will inform our parent sessions and school programs.
  • Sharper tools. We’ll draw on his expertise as we continue to develop the Video Game Minimap and Inside the Game.

We’re thrilled to have him on board. Read his full bio on our Mission + Team page, and learn more about his work at natepsych.com.
